Overview

Curazink is a small molecule pharmaceutical product containing zinc histidine, a complex of the essential trace element zinc and the amino acid L-histidine. While it is an established treatment for zinc deficiency conditions, it is currently being investigated for its potential anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild Alzheimer's disease. The drug's mechanism of action is hypothesized to involve the modulation of the TGF-β1 signaling pathway, which leads to an increase in immunosuppressive cytokines such as TGF-β1 and IL-10, and the promotion of regulatory T cell (Treg) activity. This approach aims to mitigate the neuroinflammation associated with the progression of Alzheimer's dementia. In clinical studies, it is administered orally as a hard capsule.
