Zinc myo-inositol hexakisphosphate complex (Zn-InsP6) is an insoluble small molecule chelating agent developed by researchers at Kanazawa University. It is primarily investigated as a decorporation agent to mitigate the internal contamination of radioactive isotopes, such as strontium-90 (90Sr), cesium-137 (137Cs), and radium-223 (223Ra). The complex functions by binding these radioactive metal cations within the gastrointestinal tract, thereby inhibiting their absorption into the systemic circulation and facilitating their excretion via feces. This mechanism is particularly relevant for reducing bone accumulation of radiostrontium and radium, as well as minimizing intestinal radiation exposure during 223Ra-dichloride therapy for bone metastases.
