Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zinc oxide + petrolatum is a topical combination medication used primarily to treat and prevent diaper rash, as well as other minor skin irritations such as burns, cuts, scrapes, chapped or cracked skin. The combination works by forming a physical barrier on the skin that protects against moisture and irritants. Zinc oxide acts as an astringent with soothing and protective properties, while petrolatum serves as an occlusive moisturizer that helps retain skin moisture. This product is available over-the-counter in various ointment or paste formulations[1][5][7]. It does not have significant systemic absorption when applied topically.
