Zinc undecylenate is the zinc salt of undecylenic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid derived from castor oil. It is primarily utilized as a topical antifungal agent for the treatment of various dermatomycoses, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea corporis. Beyond its antifungal activity, zinc undecylenate possesses astringent and skin-protective properties, which contribute to its use in treating skin irritations and promoting wound healing. In clinical development, Jinzhou Jiutai Pharmaceutical has evaluated a compound suppository formulation of zinc undecylenate for the treatment of anal fissures, completing Phase II trials in China. In this indication, the drug is intended to provide a protective barrier and reduce inflammation in the anal mucosa to facilitate healing.
