Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Zingiber officinale 5% transdermal patch is a topical formulation developed by researchers at Hasanuddin University for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. The patch is composed of a matrix containing 5% *Zingiber officinale* (ginger) extract, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. It is designed to leverage the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of ginger's active constituents, such as gingerols and shogaols. In clinical evaluation, the patch is used as an adjunctive therapy applied to specific pustules following the application of tretinoin 0.025% cream. The therapeutic goal is to reduce the total lesion count by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines like Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and modulating the skin microbiome.
