Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zingiberis rhizoma recens refers to the fresh rhizome of Zingiber officinale (ginger), widely used in both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western herbal practice. In TCM, it is known as Sheng Jiang (生姜) and is considered slightly warm and acrid in nature. It primarily enters the Lung, Spleen, and Stomach meridians. Its main actions include dispersing cold from the exterior (early-stage colds/flu), warming the middle burner to alleviate nausea/vomiting, harmonizing the stomach to relieve digestive discomforts such as bloating or flatulence, stopping coughing by transforming phlegm in respiratory conditions, detoxifying food poisoning (especially seafood), invigorating circulation of Qi and blood, supporting immune function, and reducing toxicity of other herbs[6][7][9][10]. Modern pharmacological studies confirm effects on nervous system modulation (antiemetic action via 5HT3 receptor antagonism), cardiovascular support (improving circulation), anti-inflammatory activity for musculoskeletal pain/arthritis relief[1][2][3][5]. Ginger’s active compounds include gingerols and shogaols with antioxidant properties. It is commonly used for prevention/treatment of motion sickness-induced nausea/vomiting; mild gastrointestinal complaints; morning sickness; respiratory infections; musculoskeletal aches/pains; menstrual cramps; loss of appetite[1][3][4].
