Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zinituss is an oral combination syrup developed by Zinnia Life Sciences for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, flu, allergies, and upper respiratory tract infections. It is formulated with three active ingredients: dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), cetirizine (a second-generation antihistamine), and phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant). Dextromethorphan acts on the cough center in the brain to suppress dry, non-productive coughs. Cetirizine selectively inhibits peripheral histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that constricts blood vessels in the nasal passages, thereby reducing swelling and congestion.
