Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Zinthionein ZC** was Adeona Pharmaceuticals' proprietary once-daily, gastroretentive, sustained-release oral medical-food candidate for dietary management of Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. The fixed-dose tablet contains zinc acetate providing 150 mg elemental zinc plus 100 mg cysteine. It was designed to improve zinc bioavailability and tolerability relative to conventional zinc acetate capsules while lowering serum non-ceruloplasmin copper; cysteine was included for antioxidant support and its role in metallothionein, a copper- and zinc-binding protein. The product was subsequently renamed **reaZin** during its clinical development. ([clinicaltrials.gov](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT01099332))
