Zirconium-89 chloride (89Zr-ZrCl4) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical precursor used primarily for the radiolabeling of targeting vectors, such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. Zirconium-89 is a positron-emitting radionuclide with a physical half-life of approximately 78.4 hours, which is exceptionally well-matched to the biological half-life of intact antibodies. This alignment allows for delayed imaging (immuno-PET) to achieve optimal target-to-background ratios as the antibody circulates and binds to its specific antigen. The product is manufactured and marketed by ITEL (Itelpharma) and holds a marketing authorization (AIC) in Italy for diagnostic use.
