Overview
Ziyin Pingchan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Based on the therapeutic principle of nourishing Yin and extinguishing wind, the formula is primarily used as an adjunctive therapy to Western medications like levodopa to improve motor symptoms and reduce complications such as dyskinesia. Mechanistically, Ziyin Pingchan is thought to exert neuroprotective effects by inhibiting the aggregation of alpha-synuclein, modulating the autophagy-lysosome pathway, and reducing oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in the substantia nigra. It is typically administered as oral granules and has been evaluated in clinical trials in China for its efficacy in managing both motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
