Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZK050 is an inhaled formulation of sodium cromoglicate (also known as cromolyn sodium) developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical through its subsidiary Zhaoke Pharmaceutical (Guangzhou). It functions as a mast cell stabilizer, primarily by acting as an agonist of the G protein-coupled receptor 35 (GPR35) and potentially modulating chloride channels. By preventing the degranulation of mast cells, ZK050 inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory mediators such as histamine and leukotrienes, which are central to the pathogenesis of allergic asthma and airway hyperresponsiveness. The drug is administered via inhalation to provide localized therapeutic action in the respiratory tract and is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of asthma and chronic cough.
