ZK052 is a preclinical-stage recombinant protein being developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical for the treatment of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), specifically targeting the congenital form of the disease. TTP is a rare and life-threatening hematologic disorder characterized by the formation of extensive microvascular thrombi, which is typically caused by a deficiency in the ADAMTS13 enzyme (a von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease). ZK052 is designed as a recombinant human ADAMTS13 (rhADAMTS13) to serve as an enzyme replacement therapy. By restoring normal protease activity, ZK052 aims to cleave ultra-large von Willebrand factor (ULVWF) multimers, thereby preventing the pathological platelet aggregation and microthrombosis that lead to organ failure and death in TTP patients.
