Overview

ZKGZ007 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical (specifically through its subsidiary Zhaoke Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of cardiovascular conditions, primarily hypercholesterolemia. It functions as an inhibitor of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a protein that plays a critical role in cholesterol homeostasis by regulating the number of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of liver cells. By binding to and neutralizing PCSK9, ZKGZ007 prevents the degradation of LDLR, thereby increasing the liver's capacity to remove low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the blood. This mechanism is intended to significantly lower LDL-C levels in patients who do not achieve adequate control with statins or other lipid-lowering therapies. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
