ZKHF001 (also known as gimapritide) is a recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide (rhBNP) being developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical and its subsidiary ZKGZ Biotech for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, specifically acute heart failure. As a synthetic version of the endogenous hormone BNP, ZKHF001 acts as a potent agonist of the natriuretic peptide receptor A (NPR-A), a membrane-bound guanylate cyclase. Binding to NPR-A increases intracellular levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which mediates systemic and pulmonary vasodilation, reduces cardiac preload and afterload, and promotes natriuresis and diuresis. These pharmacological actions help to improve hemodynamic stability and relieve symptoms of fluid overload in patients with decompensated heart failure. ZKHF001 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
