ZL-1201 is a novel, investigational humanized monoclonal antibody that targets CD47, a cell surface protein often overexpressed on tumor cells. By binding to CD47, ZL-1201 blocks its interaction with signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα) on phagocytic cells such as macrophages. This blockade disrupts the "don't eat me" signal that normally protects cancer cells from immune-mediated destruction, thereby promoting phagocytosis and clearance of tumor cells by the immune system. Preclinical studies indicate that ZL-1201 has an improved hematologic safety profile compared to other anti-CD47 antibodies and demonstrates potent antitumor activity both as monotherapy and in combination with standard-of-care therapies including other monoclonal antibodies and chemotherapies. The drug is being developed primarily for the treatment of solid tumors and advanced cancers.
