ZM-006

ZM-006 is a veterinary transdermal formulation of the antithyroid drug methimazole being developed by Zomedica for the chronic treatment of feline hyperthyroidism, the most common hormone disorder in middle-aged to older cats.[1][10][19] Using a proprietary feline-specific transdermal gel applied to the inner surface of the ear, ZM-006 is designed to deliver methimazole systemically as an alternative to orally administered tablets and to reduce reliance on compounded preparations, thereby improving dosing compliance and bringing dispensing revenue back into the veterinary clinic.[1][7][10][19] Methimazole acts by inhibiting thyroid hormone synthesis within the thyroid gland, thereby reducing excessive circulating thyroid hormone levels and mitigating clinical signs such as weight loss, polyphagia, and cardiac complications associated with feline hyperthyroidism.[1][10]
