Overview

ZM-011 is a transdermal gel formulation of fluoxetine developed by Zomedica Pharmaceuticals for veterinary use in cats to treat behavioral disorders, particularly inappropriate urination. Fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain to modulate behavior. Applied to the cat's ear, this novel delivery method improves compliance compared to oral forms, addressing challenges in dosing cats; it targets off-label use of human fluoxetine (Prozac) which veterinarians commonly prescribe and compound for feline behavioral issues.[3][5][7]
