**ZM241385** is a high-affinity and selective antagonist of the adenosine A₂A receptor. It is primarily used as a research tool to study adenosine receptor pharmacology and function in vitro and in vivo. In animal models it has demonstrated neuroprotective effects against beta amyloid neurotoxicity (implicating potential utility for Alzheimer's disease), and it can enhance L-DOPA-derived dopamine release (suggesting possible application in Parkinson's disease). However, it is not approved for clinical use and remains an experimental compound for research purposes only[9].
