Overview

ZMAb is a monoclonal antibody cocktail originally developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) for the treatment of Ebola virus infection. It consists of three specific antibodies—1H3, 2G4, and 4G7—that target the Ebola virus glycoprotein (GP). By binding to the GP, these antibodies neutralize the virus and prevent it from entering and infecting host cells. While ZMAb showed significant efficacy in animal models, it was later optimized by combining its most effective components (2G4 and 4G7) with an antibody from the MB-003 cocktail (c13C6) to create the more potent therapeutic ZMapp. The development and commercialization rights were managed through partnerships involving Defyrus and LeafBio (a subsidiary of Mapp Biopharmaceutical).
