Overview

Zn0.4Fe2.6O4-NH2 is an ultrasmall zinc ferrite nanoparticle engineered as a T1 contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This specific formulation features an amine modification, resulting in a positively charged surface. This positive charge is crucial for its high affinity to macrophages, which are key cellular components in atherosclerotic plaques. By selectively accumulating in macrophages within these plaques, Zn0.4Fe2.6O4-NH2 aims to enhance the visualization of atherosclerosis via MRI, offering improved diagnostic capabilities compared to conventional contrast agents like Gd-DTPA.
