zofenoprilat

Zofenoprilat is the active metabolite of the prodrug zofenopril, which is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It competitively binds to and inhibits ACE, thereby blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. This inhibition prevents the potent vasoconstrictive actions of angiotensin II and results in vasodilation. Zofenoprilat also decreases angiotensin II-induced aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex, leading to increased sodium excretion and water outflow[5][2]. The drug is primarily used for its cardioprotective and antihypertensive effects in cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and heart failure[6][8].
