Zofin is an investigational acellular biologic therapy derived from human amniotic fluid. It contains over 300 growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, and extracellular vesicles/nanoparticles secreted by perinatal stem and epithelial cells. The product is minimally manipulated to retain naturally occurring microRNAs and other bioactive components without the addition of exogenous substances. Zofin's mechanism of action is believed to involve immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects mediated by its paracrine factors—particularly extracellular vesicles (EVs), soluble proteins, and miRNAs—which may suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine cascades such as TNF, IL-6, and IL-8. It is under clinical investigation for post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC or long COVID), acute COVID-19 infection due to SARS-CoV-2, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), knee osteoarthritis, severe acute respiratory syndrome caused by influenza infection, and was previously considered for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Zofin was originally developed as Organicell Flow.
