Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zoledronat OSTEO Labatec is an intravenous bisphosphonate containing zoledronic acid, developed and marketed by Labatec Pharma. It is formulated as a 5 mg/100ml solution for infusion. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men, the prevention of clinical fractures after hip fracture, and the treatment of Paget's disease of bone. Zoledronic acid acts by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption through the inhibition of farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPPS) in the mevalonate pathway, which leads to increased bone mineral density and reduced bone turnover. It is typically administered as a single 5 mg intravenous infusion once a year for the treatment of osteoporosis.
