Overview

Zolodine refers to capsules containing ziprasidone hydrochloride, an atypical antipsychotic medication. Its therapeutic effects are primarily mediated through a combination of antagonism at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5HT2A receptors. Additionally, it acts as an agonist at serotonin 5HT1A receptors and an antagonist at serotonin 5HT1D, 5HT2C, alpha-1 adrenergic, and histamine H1 receptors. It also exhibits modest inhibition of norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake. Ziprasidone hydrochloride is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar mania, and acute agitation in individuals with schizophrenia, as well as for manic or mixed episodes and maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder.
