zomepirac

Zomepirac is an orally effective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the pyrrole-acetic acid class, structurally related to tolmetin. It was developed by McNeil Pharmaceutical and marketed under the brand name Zomax for the management of mild to severe pain. Zomepirac acts as a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and providing analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Clinical studies showed it was more effective than aspirin or codeine alone and comparable to opioid combinations for pain relief. However, due to its association with fatal and near-fatal anaphylactoid reactions, it was withdrawn from major markets in 1983[2][3][4][5][6].
