Overview

Zonylia is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) cardiovascular medication containing ezetimibe and atorvastatin calcium trihydrate. Marketed by Innovis Pharma in Greece, it is designed as a replacement therapy for adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous and homozygous familial and non-familial) or mixed hyperlipidemia who are already stabilized on the individual components at the same dosages. The medication utilizes a dual mechanism of action: ezetimibe inhibits the intestinal absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol by targeting the NPC1L1 transporter, while atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), suppresses endogenous cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This combination effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, serving as an adjunct to diet for managing cardiovascular disease risk factors.
