Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zorvolex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) developed by Iroko Pharmaceuticals for the management of mild to moderate acute pain and osteoarthritis pain. It is a unique formulation of diclofenac free acid that utilizes proprietary SoluMatrix Fine Particle Technology. This technology reduces the particle size of diclofenac to submicron levels, which are approximately 20 times smaller than conventional diclofenac particles. This reduction in particle size increases the surface area, leading to faster dissolution and enhanced absorption, which allows for effective analgesia at lower total daily doses (18 mg and 35 mg) compared to traditional diclofenac formulations. Like other NSAIDs, Zorvolex works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain and inflammation.
