Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCHT's Herpes Zoster Vaccine (Live) is a live attenuated vaccine developed by Changchun BCHT Biotechnology Co. for the prevention of shingles (herpes zoster) in adults aged 40 years and older. It utilizes the Oka strain of the Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV). In early 2023, it became the first domestically developed shingles vaccine to receive marketing approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). Unlike the recombinant zoster vaccine (Shingrix), which requires two doses, this live attenuated vaccine is administered as a single dose. It works by boosting VZV-specific cell-mediated immunity, thereby preventing the reactivation of the latent virus in the sensory ganglia.
