Overview

Zoster vaccine recombinant is a non-live, adjuvanted recombinant protein vaccine used to prevent herpes zoster (shingles) and its complications in adults. The active component is the varicella zoster virus surface glycoprotein E (gE), produced using recombinant DNA technology. It is formulated with the AS01B adjuvant to enhance immune response. The primary mechanism of action involves boosting active immunity against varicella-zoster virus by stimulating both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses specific to VZV gE antigen. Zoster vaccine recombinant is administered as a two-dose intramuscular series, typically 2–6 months apart. It was developed for use in adults aged 50 years and older, as well as immunocompromised individuals at increased risk of shingles[1][2][4][5][6]. The developer and manufacturer is GSK.
