Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zoster vaccine recombinant, adjuvanted is a non-live, recombinant subunit vaccine indicated for the prevention of herpes zoster (shingles) in adults. It contains varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E (gE) as the antigen and uses the AS01B adjuvant system to enhance immune response. The mechanism of action involves stimulating a strong cell-mediated and humoral immune response against varicella-zoster virus by presenting gE with an immunostimulatory adjuvant. This results in robust protection against reactivation of latent VZV infection that causes shingles. Developed primarily for adults aged 50 years and older, its indication was expanded to include adults aged 18 years and older who are or will be at increased risk due to immunodeficiency or immunosuppression[2][3][6][7]. The product is administered intramuscularly as a two-dose series.
