Zostum

Zostum is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic developed and marketed by Zuventus Healthcare. It contains cefoperazone sodium, a third-generation semisynthetic broad-spectrum cephalosporin, and sulbactam sodium, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefoperazone exerts its bactericidal activity by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Sulbactam acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamases, thereby extending the spectrum of cefoperazone to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms. Zostum is primarily used in the treatment of severe infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and other systemic infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including multidrug-resistant strains. It is available in various injectable strengths and is a significant brand in the Indian pharmaceutical market.
