Overview

ZP-059 is a dry powder inhaled formulation of the triazole antifungal voriconazole being developed by Zambon as a locally delivered therapy for pulmonary aspergillus-related diseases such as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. It contains voriconazole in hard capsules for inhalation and, like systemic voriconazole, inhibits fungal cytochrome P450–dependent 14-alpha-sterol demethylase, blocking ergosterol synthesis and disrupting fungal cell membrane formation, but is designed to provide high lung exposure with reduced systemic exposure and improved tolerability compared with oral dosing.[1][4][7][8][13][19]
