Overview

**ZP2929** is a synthetic peptide dual agonist of the glucagon receptor (GCGR) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R), engineered based on the pharmacology of oxyntomodulin, a gut hormone that activates both receptors to improve glucose tolerance and induce weight loss. Discovered by Zealand Pharma, it demonstrated in preclinical models superior glycemic control without weight gain when combined with long-acting insulin, and greater weight loss than liraglutide alone in obesity models. Intended for once-daily subcutaneous administration, ZP2929 was licensed to Boehringer Ingelheim for global development in type 2 diabetes and obesity, with Zealand Pharma conducting the initial Phase I trial announced in 2012.[1][3][5][7]
