Overview

ZP6590 is an investigational long-acting glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist developed by Zealand Pharma for the treatment of obesity. It is a peptide-based therapy designed to be co-formulated with other therapeutic peptides, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists. In preclinical studies, ZP6590 alone had negligible effects on body weight but substantially potentiated the weight loss effects of GLP-1 monotherapy (e.g., semaglutide), suggesting synergistic potential in combination therapies for obesity. Additionally, it has demonstrated antiemetic effects in animal models challenged with emesis-inducing agents. As of April 2025, ZP6590 has completed preclinical development and is preparing to enter first-in-human clinical trials[1][2][4].
