Overview
ZT-034 is a nasal spray formulation of teriparatide developed by Azelon Pharmaceuticals (formerly Zelos Therapeutics). Teriparatide is a recombinant form of the first 34 amino acids of human parathyroid hormone (PTH), which acts as an anabolic agent to stimulate new bone formation. The mechanism involves intermittent activation of osteoblasts via the parathyroid hormone receptor (PTH1R), leading to increased bone mineral density. ZT-034 was designed as a non-injectable alternative for osteoporosis therapy and utilizes Aegis Therapeutics' Intravail technology to enhance peptide absorption across the nasal mucosa. Clinical development reached Phase II for postmenopausal osteoporosis but was discontinued[1][3][5][9].
