Overview
Zu Zhibao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by Shanghai Fengxian Central Hospital (also known as the South Campus of the Sixth People's Hospital) for the treatment of complications associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is specifically indicated for diabetic foot, including diabetic peripheral neuropathy and vasculopathy. The formulation is typically administered as a topical foot soak or bath. Its therapeutic mechanism involves 'invigorating blood and transforming stasis,' which translates to improving peripheral microcirculation, reducing local inflammation, and promoting the healing of chronic ulcers. Research suggests that Zu Zhibao may enhance the expression of angiogenic factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in local tissues, thereby facilitating tissue repair and alleviating neuropathic pain and numbness.
