Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zulvac is a line of inactivated veterinary vaccines developed by Zoetis for the active immunization of cattle and sheep against bluetongue virus (BTV). The vaccines contain inactivated virus particles from specific BTV serotypes, such as serotype 1, 4, or 8, and are formulated with adjuvants including aluminium hydroxide and saponin to enhance the immune response. By inducing the production of specific antibodies, Zulvac prevents viraemia—the presence of the virus in the bloodstream—thereby reducing clinical symptoms and limiting the spread of the disease by *Culicoides* midges. The product range includes monovalent formulations (e.g., Zulvac 8) and bivalent combinations (e.g., Zulvac 1+8), with specific versions optimized for cattle (Bovis) and sheep (Ovis).
