Overview
Zuogui granules is a traditional Chinese patent medicine (TCM) formulation traditionally used to nourish Kidney Yin. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial, led by Bing Shu, for its potential to improve bone metabolism and treat renal osteodystrophy in patients with chronic renal insufficiency. The formula is hypothesized to replenish Kidney Yin, which in TCM theory is essential for bone health and development, thereby addressing secondary osteoporosis and bone loss associated with renal failure. The formulation typically consists of a combination of herbal extracts including Rehmannia glutinosa, Dioscorea opposita, and Cornus officinalis, among others.
