Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zuogui granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation derived from the classic kidney-Yin-tonifying formula, Zuogui Wan, originally developed by physician Jingyue Zhang during the Ming dynasty. It is composed of eight herbal and animal-derived ingredients: Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Dioscoreae Rhizoma, Lycii Fructus, Corni Fructus, Cyathulae Radix, Cuscutae Semen, Cervi Cornus Colla, and Testudinis Carapacis et Plastri Colla. The formulation is designed to nourish kidney essence and is being investigated for the treatment of renal osteodystrophy and chronic renal insufficiency in patients with kidney Yin deficiency. Its mechanism involves regulating bone metabolism by modulating calcium and phosphorus levels, enhancing osteoblast activity, and influencing markers such as fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), parathyroid hormone (PTH), and osteocalcin.
