Overview
Zuogui Pill (Zuogui Wan) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originally described in the Ming Dynasty text 'Jingyue Quanshu'. It is primarily used to tonify Kidney Yin, nourish Essence, and supplement the Marrow. The formula typically consists of eight ingredients: *Rehmannia glutinosa* (Shu Di Huang), *Dioscorea opposita* (Shan Yao), *Cornus officinalis* (Shan Zhu Yu), *Lycium barbarum* (Gou Qi Zi), *Cyathula officinalis* (Chuan Niu Xi), *Cuscuta chinensis* (Tu Si Zi), *Cervus nippon* (deer antler glue), and *Plastrum testudinis* (tortoise plastron glue). In modern clinical research, Zuogui Pill is investigated for its ability to regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, improve ovarian reserve, and modulate reproductive hormones such as estradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone. It is frequently employed in the treatment of premature ovarian failure (POF), diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), and menopausal symptoms associated with Kidney Yin deficiency.
