Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZuraPrep is a preoperative skin antiseptic solution developed by Zurex Pharma, Inc. to reduce the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs). Its active ingredient is 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA), which acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent by denaturing proteins and dissolving lipid membranes of microorganisms on the skin surface. It is specifically designed for use on the abdomen and inguinal regions prior to surgical procedures. Clinical evaluation has involved Phase 3 trials comparing its efficacy to standard-of-care antiseptics like ChloraPrep (chlorhexidine gluconate/isopropyl alcohol) and vehicle controls.
