Overview

ZX1305 is a recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) being developed by Jiangsu Zhongxin Pharmaceutical for the treatment of optic nerve damage associated with primary open-angle glaucoma. As a neurotrophic factor, NGF plays a critical role in the survival, differentiation, and maintenance of neurons, including retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). By binding to its high-affinity receptor, Tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA), and the low-affinity p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR), ZX1305 aims to provide neuroprotection and potentially promote the repair of damaged optic nerve fibers. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China as an injectable formulation, representing a potential neuroprotective strategy to prevent vision loss in glaucoma patients beyond intraocular pressure lowering.
