ZY021

ZY021 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, for the treatment of acute pharyngitis. It is a derivative of arctigenin, a bioactive lignan found in the seeds of *Arctium lappa* (burdock). ZY021 exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory and analgesic mechanisms, specifically by inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) signaling pathway. This inhibition leads to a reduction in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). The drug is designed to alleviate throat pain and inflammation associated with acute pharyngitis and has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China.
