Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZY7318 is a pegylated recombinant human erythropoietin (PEG-rhEPO) being developed by Prolong Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of anemia secondary to chronic kidney disease. As a long-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA), it binds to and activates the erythropoietin receptor on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, stimulating their proliferation and differentiation into mature red blood cells. The addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains to the recombinant protein is designed to increase its hydrodynamic size and reduce renal clearance, thereby extending its circulating half-life and potentially reducing the frequency of administration compared to standard epoetin alfa. ZY7318 has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation to characterize its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles in healthy volunteers.
