ZYDPLA1 is a novel, long-acting DPP-4 inhibitor developed for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. It works by blocking the enzyme Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which inactivates the incretin hormone GLP-1. By increasing GLP-1 levels, ZYDPLA1 glucose-dependently increases insulin secretion and lowers glucagon secretion, resulting in improved glucose homeostasis. What distinguishes ZYDPLA1 from other DPP-4 inhibitors is its long-acting profile, offering the potential for once-weekly oral dosing compared to the currently available once-daily DPP-4 inhibitors. It is characterized by high potency, excellent selectivity (>7000-fold for DPP-4 vs DPP-8/9), low clearance, large volume of distribution, and a long half-life with excellent oral bioavailability across species.
