Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zygolide is a veterinary dopamine receptor agonist developed by Dechra Veterinary Products for the control of clinical signs associated with Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID), also known as Equine Cushing's Disease, in horses. As a synthetic ergot derivative, it functions by stimulating dopamine receptors, which leads to a decrease in the plasma levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), and other pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) peptides. Approved by the FDA in December 2025, Zygolide is the first generic bioequivalent option to the reference listed drug Prascend. It is formulated as 1 mg peppermint-flavored tablets with 360-degree scoring to facilitate precise dosing and ease of administration in equine patients.
