ZYN001

ZYN001 is a synthetic pro-drug of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) developed by Zynerba Pharmaceuticals as a transdermal patch for controlled delivery, avoiding first-pass metabolism and gastrointestinal degradation. It was designed for potential use in neurological disorders such as Tourette's syndrome, leveraging THC's psychoactive cannabinoid properties for therapeutic effects on symptoms like tics and behavioral challenges. A Phase 1 safety and dosing study showed it failed to achieve target blood levels of 5-15 ng/ml THC despite no serious adverse events, leading Zynerba to discontinue development in favor of ZYN002 and conserve cash.[1][4][11]
