Target intelligence / Profile preview

α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Ionotropic glutamate receptor, Receptor, Ligand-gated ion channel
01

Overview

The AMPA receptor (AMPAR) is a ligand-gated ion channel that mediates fast excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system (CNS). It is a tetrameric complex composed of GluA1, GluA2, GluA3, and GluA4 subunits. Upon binding glutamate, the channel opens, allowing Na⁺ (and sometimes Ca²⁺) influx, leading to depolarization. AMPARs are crucial for synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory, and are implicated in neurological conditions like epilepsy and autoimmune encephalitis.
