Overview
HSD17B13 is a liver-specific enzyme crucial for hepatic lipid droplet metabolism. Its upregulation promotes fat accumulation in NAFLD/NASH. Loss-of-function genetic variants protect against advanced forms of fatty liver disease including cirrhosis and cancer.
