2-oxoglutarate and iron-dependent oxygenase domain-containing protein 2 (OGFOD2) is an enzyme of the 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase family, characterized by the requirement for iron (Fe(II)) and 2-oxoglutarate as cofactors. The precise biological function of OGFOD2 is currently unknown, but it is predicted to have iron ion binding and dioxygenase activity, potentially functioning as a hydroxylase that modifies other proteins, similar to other family members. OGFOD2 is believed to localize in the cytoplasm and, by analogy to the related OGFOD1 protein, may play a role in the cellular stress response, translation regulation, and possibly apoptosis, though these functions remain to be experimentally confirmed. There are currently no approved drugs, established disease associations, or reported biomarker roles for OGFOD2.
